Dec. 13th, 2009

  • 8:41 PM
This is what we woke up to on Saturday morning:

no, this photo wasn't taken in black & white

Finally, some colours appeared...

I thought I was dreaming when I looked out of the window - the whole place has turned monochrome overnight! It was as if somebody has taken out the colours when we were all sleeping.

The temperature has fallen below zero since yesterday. There was light snowfall when we were out shopping, but I don't think I'll be motivated to go out in the weeks to come since temperature will continue to fall further.

Snow!

  • Dec. 11th, 2009 at 8:41 PM
Just when I was about to start writing about my first sighting of a wee bit of falling snow of the year during breakfast this morning (it came and went with the rain very quickly), I saw massive snowfall happening right now!

So I grabbed my digicam and took a few pictures:

The snow came rather late this year. Heard that it was already snowing in November last year. Maybe I should go out to the balcony and enjoy the full glory of it.

Cheese

  • Dec. 10th, 2009 at 5:02 PM
I love cheese and am really delighted to see the wide variety they have here. Prices are also much more cheaper as compared to Singapore.

Camembert - Taken by my really-cannot-make-it handphone camera

The cheese variety is so wide that I'd probably need a few months to sample each of them. Gonna watch the waistline though.

Chicken Mushroom Rice

  • Dec. 8th, 2009 at 2:42 AM
This dish has always been one of my favourites since it's so easy to prepare and you can put just about any ingredients that you want.

For the version I have made this evening, here are the ingredients:

1. Chicken (thigh meat is the best but if you are health conscious, use breast meat)
2. Mushrooms (chinese dried mushrooms are the best as they are extremely fragrant. But remember to soak them in hot water for an hour to soften)
3. Half a cup of rice
4. Stock

For hassle-free cooking, you can get the ready-made chicken stock from supermarts. But if you are health conscious, or like me, who cannot find such stocks in the neighbourhood supermart, you can always make your own. Here's my version:

1. Wolfsberries
2. Dried scallops
3. Ikan bilis

Just pop everything into a pot, add water and bring to boil. I left it to boil for about 20mins to bring out the full flavour of the ingredients. Add salt and pepper according to your preference.

In the meantime, stir fry the chicken and mushroom with garlic till they are almost fully cooked.

Wash the rice and place them in a pot (or rice cooker if you prefer). Lay the chicken and mushroom on top of the rice and pour in the stock till it covers the ingredients. Set it to cook.

15 minutes later, dinner is ready!

Lunch

  • Dec. 7th, 2009 at 8:42 PM
Inspired by [info]redcapecrusader , this is what I had for lunch today:

Mushroom and Ham Aglio Olio

Missed out on the anchovies as I couldn't find them in the small neighbourhood supermart. I'd love to have seafood but it's so hard to find fresh ones unless you go to the city. Anyway, my cravings have more or less been satisfied :)

Warm

  • Dec. 7th, 2009 at 8:37 PM

Today's temperature is significantly higher! I feel extremely comfortable even though I'm not wearing my booties. The weather has been rather strange this year. It hasn't even started to snow yet! According to the Germans, a warm year end will only mean a very harsh winter in January and February. I'm so not looking forward to that.

Food

  • Dec. 7th, 2009 at 2:31 AM
Coming from a place where cheap and good food is abundant everywhere, I definitely need to get used to the limited variety of food over here.

So far we have been cooking our own meals as eating out is rather pricey (no foodcourts of hawker centres). Anyway, there isn't a lot of variety to begin with (the hard and dry German bread is not my cup of tea) so it's no biggie.

I'd take the husband's fried rice anytime!

Will be experimenting with some other receipes, especially soups since the husband loves them. The only issue is finding the ingredients we need.

Out and About

  • Dec. 3rd, 2009 at 3:42 AM
Today's weather was so lovely that we thought it'd be a waste to stay home. Anyway, I had a pretty good rest yesterday and feel well enough to venture out.

At Max-Weber Platz

Love the vines and leaves on the block of apartments

Max-Weber Platz is a really quaint and pretty neighbourhood, it reminds me of the little towns from Hollywood movies. Best of all, it's near the city. It'd be lovely if we could stay there but we suspect rental's gonna be rather high.

We then headed town to look at the Christmas Market. The fountain at Karlplatz has been transformed into a ice-skating ring! Reminds me of the time when I used to ice-skate...and fall miserably most of the time.

The skies darken really fast during winter (around 4.30pm). We basically just strolled along the streets and had an early dinner as SH had to go for his class.

We went for Thai food, which wasn't that fantastic but at least the dishes weren't salty. My phad thai had too much tomato ketchup (since when is tomato ketchup used in phad thai?!)! SH's green curry was quite decent though.

You can't tell but there was actually a lot of ketchup there

SH's rather pale-looking green curry

Sent the husband off for classes while I strolled along Marienplatz to hunt for thicker leggings. Decided that the crowd was getting too big at the Christmas Market and headed home.

Can't wait for the husband to be home!

Sun!

  • Dec. 2nd, 2009 at 6:41 PM
For once I'm grateful to see the sun!

Not for long though, temperature will take a dive on Friday.

New Shoes!

  • Dec. 1st, 2009 at 11:42 PM
My first pair of shoes in Munich!

Obviously they aren't meant for outdoors. SH has trashed the old bedroom slippers that he had bought last year. With the temperature dropping drastically within these few days, I had to get a new pair fast.

And we did. Now my feet are warm and snug :)

Fretting...

  • Nov. 28th, 2009 at 8:11 PM
I'm getting nervous that I'd miss out something.

Hmm...what else do I have to do??

Announcement

  • Nov. 25th, 2009 at 5:50 PM
I'm in the midst of relocating to Munich and KATHEYL will be closed from 25 November till 30 November.

Appreciate your kind patience as we make our way to the land of beers, wursts and sauerkraut.

Do stay tuned for new pieces in December!

Craftgawker

  • Nov. 11th, 2009 at 10:11 PM
We are on Craftgawker! It's nice to see my own posting amongst all the other beautiful photos there.

In the meantime, I'm trying to get rid of this nasty flu bug that has been bugging me for the last 1 month! It's annoying that the symptoms are never full-blown - they just trickle in one by one!

The meds don't seem to be working for me and so I've embarked on taking Traditional Chinese Medicine as well as Manuka Honey and Vitamin C.

Can't wait to be well.

Japanese Clay Flowers

Some new additions to my stash:

These flowers are handmade with Japanese clay and no one flower is similar to another. Pretty, aren't they?

Was a little flu-ish today and decided to stay home instead of doing the weekly visit at my parents'. After a few doses of herbal tea and Manuka honey, I think I'm feeling slightly better.

It wasn't too bad a day afterall, I managed to churn out some pieces :)

More to be uploaded on my Etsy site in the next few days. So stay tuned!

F1

  • Oct. 20th, 2009 at 10:45 PM
Some seriously backdated pictures which I've found in my digicam - pictures from the F1 race.

Touristy shots before the race

I finally convinced myself that I should just go and take a look given that I might not have the chance to do so in the next few years. And goodness knows if F1 would be continued here after the 5-year contract.

Didn't get good shots even though I was at the sharpest bend of the circuit, meaning the cars would have slowed down considerably. But still, the speed is too fast for my basic digicam.

Limited Edition @ Coalition Store

  • Oct. 10th, 2009 at 6:41 PM
A sneak preview of some pieces which will be solely found at Coalition Store:

Hop on down to #04-33 at The Heeren Shops to check out the rest from this weekend onwards!

KATHEYL & Coalition Store

  • Oct. 5th, 2009 at 11:29 PM
I swung by the Coalition Store @ The Heeren shops to fix up one of the pieces this evening. It sure feels surreal to see my works displayed in a shop even though it's just a teeny weeny space :)

Pardon the blurry photos - the camera function of my new mobile isn't as good as my old one

Also spotted other jewelry designers whose wares are there too.

Ignatius has done a good job with the shop deco and layout - clean, neat and simple. Everything is lined up nicely and I especially love the display which he has done up for us consignees!

I've created some pieces which are only available at the store. So do check out these limited pieces and also the oriental-theme t-shirts for guys which are conceptualised by Ignatius.

Oh, and I also spied some really nice dresses! But too bad they are too long for shorty me...

This is my new phone for the next few years.

I hope it survives longer than its predecessor, but I doubt so. Phones these days don't last and it's such a waste. Repairing them when the warranty is over costs a bomb. When you get a new phone, there's a whole bunch of new accessories that come with it and on the other hand, you have another bunch of accessories from your faulty phone which you don't know what to do with them.

What to do...the manufacturers need to feed themselves right?

Anyway, I was weighing my options on whether to send the old phone for servicing or get a new one when I came across the E63 retailing at an irresistable price (comes with a 2-year contract, of course). Needless to say, I got this blackberry wannabe since it's tried and proven.

My sister and team mates at work are all using this phone and it seems pretty decent. I'm just a little overwhelmed by the features since all my previous phones are very basic.

Will play around when I'm feeling better. Right now, my throat's really sore, the nose is runny, the head is throbbing and I can feel fever creeping up. Bad time to fall ill since the neighbourhood clinics are all closed for the day :(
